Finally got a quote back from one of the heating companies, and they have quoted £4650.00 exc vat:
Works to include:
Supply new Gloworm Boiler with built in time clock on external wall
Supply and fit new flue
Supply and fit all pipework and condensate pipe to drain
Supply and fit new thermostat
Supply and fit new gas supply from meter to kitchen (to boiler and cooker)
Supply and fit radiators
Supply and fit thermo radiator valves
Supply and fit 500 x 1100 chrome bath towel radiator
Run all pipework in screed floor (channels to be chased by others)
Is this a little on the pricey side?...my builder said it should only be around £2.5k- £3k tops? It is a 2 bed bungalow! Though i know it is a total new installation? That is my first quote back, so have currently nothing to compare it with!....but just seemed abit high for a small bungalow!....
Good morning: cost will be dependent on your location in the UK and the standard of the specification. Avoid Glow-worm:eek:. Burying pipework in screed adds to the cost i.e. sleeving and insulation. I would recommend a magnetic filter on the system eg. Boiler Buddy or Spirovent, a scale inhibitor if in a hard water area and a programmable roomstat. You haven't said if the pipework will be in copper or plastic. I assume the RGI has checked your mains flow and pressure to determine whether a combi is suitable. Installation should include notification to Building Control and completion of the Benchmark. More here.
On the face of it, unless you are in Central London (and as you have a bungalow...limited chance of that) the price is OTT.;)

Hi Just seen the estimate you received, hope you don't mind me butting in, but i work for my husband who is a gas installer, now granted we live in Northern Ireland where prices are a bit cheaper, but we are charging for a Worcester boiler which is a Rolls Royce model compared to Glowworm and you get a 5 year guarantee for £2400.00 includes one new rad. We would be doing everything except supply and fit rads and run the pipework across screed floor.
You can save money by buying your rads yourself. Also as far as I am aware Glowworm only over a two year guarantee where Worcester over a 5 year guarantee. Also if your Glowworm breaks down after the guarantee the parts are very very expensive and sometimes it is actually cheaper to buy a new boiler. I would get more quotes from maybe smaller family run companies and also look on worcester website at there boilers and accredited installers.
I really hope this helps xxJesus is alive!!!0 -
Hi sorry also meant to say check what pipe he is using, copper is the best not plastic and also get a magnetic filter added on too. Ask for references before you agree to proceed and watch out for hidden 'extras'

OMG, I didn't realise that your quote didn't include the VAT! That's seriously pricy then!0 -
i forgot ..check if there are any grants from council...We never got one cause they said they were skint ,even though house was below tolarable standard and we were entitled too one.
We did however get a 500 quid grant from eage? as it was a new gas supply...
.
Forgot to say thanks for the grant info!! I will contact warmfront to see if there are any grants available for heating, though having a quick skim on the website, looks like probably not likely to receive a grant, as we're not over 60 or receiving benefits etc. But am going to fill out the assessment form and see if I get lucky! haha!0
