Amazon you don't pay any fees at all unless the item sells, eBay you will have to pay the listing fee even if it doesn't sell.

ebay works for CDs, but you need to be very honest about condition

Stuff that sells best is stuff for collectors, rather than mainstream stuff, but you would be amazed what is popular

I typically start my CDs at 99p or less so at least they sell

i recently listed a brand new album still sealed on ebay starting at 99p and £1 postage i got 1 view in 10 days and no bids i personally wouldnt bother putting mainstream cds on ebay anymore. where as stuff that is more rare sells really well i currently have a job lot of 17 cds which are reasonably rare and its currently up to £65 quid with 2 days left

But surely a CD sold for 99p is hardly worth the effort?
I don't have anything particularly collectable, mostly '90's rock stuff (Manic Street Preachers, Placebo, Marilyn Manson etc) so nothing you can't get in Music Zone for £6.99 really- I was hoping to offload them all at once to a shop, at least I could get rid of them all at once for a lump sum (even if only £20 or so)though none of my local 2nd hand record stores would accept them (too short on space, already had plenty of copies etc..) but having them hang about for months waiting for someone to spot them on ebay and buy for 99p doesn't really seem worth the hassle- may as well just chuck them. Does anyone have any better ideas? Is internet my only option?
Idea of selling them bagged together could work- has anyone done this? Did it pay off?

  • I'd go on Amazon and check out the titles, you might have a pleasant surprise with a few of them so it would be worth listing them - it will take you no more than 1 or 2 minutes to list each one, no photo, no fees till it sells

If you decide to go with amazon have a look at our thread for instructions on getting them listed

I had lots of CDs (about 60) which were taking up space and wanted to get money from them. I did a job lot on ebay last year and got £25 for them. There were lots of singles and nothing very interesting in the lot but there is always someone out there to buy these things! I charged £9.50 p&p and this covered it. I made a point of stating that there was no reserve as this often puts people off. Give ebay a try - set a starting price at something that you would be happy for them to go at and see what happens! Good luck!

waterlilyann - Thanks, that's really helpful.
Considering all this advice I think what I'll do is check that there's nothing valuable (doubt it) then put the lot on ebay like you did. I'm not expecting to make a fortune from them, but still, I want it to be worth the bother of the walk to the post office!

    Hi LF,

I have a load of punk/metal CDs that i don't listen to anymore so listed some on Amazon & have sold 9 since last week making me about £35

Amazon gives you £1 towards postage. All the CDs i've sent cost 50p & i use jiffy bags from Poundland which work out at 10p each

Personally i'd recommend Amazon as it's free & listing is so simple.I also sell on ebay but it's mostly toys & kid's clothes

I suppose what would be really useful is a post from someone who has experience with both Amazon and ebay to try and judge which is better- I for one am totally confused now! Maybe I'll try both and see what happens.

why don't you search on amazon for those that you have for sale

If there are lots of used at low prices, that will give you the answer
