Natwest charge £1.25 per paypal transaction

Hi,
I recently received a replacement card from natwest as mine was cloned. My old card was a solo card but they sent me a visa debit card. No problem or so i thought until i made some e-bay purchases via paypal. For each purchase i have been charged £1.25. I contacted paypal who say that RBS/natwest now charge this fee with there visa debit card. Its in the small print that i didn't read as i stupidly assumed that a replacement card would have the same terms and conditions as the card that was being replaced !
Has anyone else come across this ? I have forwarded a complaint to natwest but await a reply

Yeah its a known issue to the bank and MSE members theres quite a few threads already going about it...

As far as im aware the banks stance on it is Paypals transactions are processed overseas hence the £1.25 charge.

Dont hold me to that its just the word on the street :D

  • Couldn't you just set your PayPal account to link to your bank account using Direct Debit?

Paypal seem to be a bit crafty here, in my case they do anyway, not all transactions have the option to use a direct bank transfer in spite of a linked account and DD set up, more often than not it's only my registered debit/credit card that is available to use.
I prefer to use a credit card as there is possibly more protection and I suspect Paypal have to pay a Visa fee too?!:p
Hopefully other banks will not follow Nat West's example.
