Thank you all soooooooooooooooo much. I love loads of these ideas amd def going to do the decorate your own cake and i like the idea of them decorating the table clothes with crayons ect. I am going to do pass the parcel but was wondering - we went to a party recently and there was a gift within each wrapper am i meant to do that??? it can get more pricey
It used to be just one gift in my day, but that is too long ago to mention (80's...shhhhsssh).
Perhaps they could get to choose something from a bowl, when they get to unwrap, with small sweets or raisins in (eg Freddo bars, milky bars etc) or even if you could go to 99p shop and find some multi packs of stickers, or lucky bags with crayons and stuff in ?

When I have done pass the parcel we always had gifts in all the layers, but just tiny things like a sweet and a balloon, or buy a pack of those really cheapy toys for about 99p where you get the whistles, and those little finger monsters etc. Then have a small but nice main present. I also used to do instead of a present have a forfeit like hop 10 times, or rub your tummy and pat your head etc, but that was with slightly older children, maybe you could adapt it to simple things to suit your age group, and save you buying other presents. At 3 though they have no concept of how much things cost, so a tiny, really cheap prize is great to them as long as it's a prize iyswim!
  • Pass the parcel go to the £1 shop, You can get lovely bits from there (£1 china teddy bear themed teaset near here!) Get a large pack of sweets from any shop (10p haribo pck) and put them between each layer,
I do some of the layers in old comics/newspaper etc, they end up on the floor anyway!
For 3 year olds make sure you "rig" the game with the bday child not winning main prize and a layer for each child!
Again it shouldn't cost more than around £3 to do (Netto do large box of lollys for less than £1 which work great for layers!!!)

Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone ;)
  • Pass the parcel - only wrap the prize once - when the music stops whoever is holding the parcel is 'out' (and gets a sweetie) last one left holding the parcel wins and gets to unwrap it - that's how people seem to do it at the parties we've been at anyway....

A nice easy treasure hunt for little ones is to cut out or draw a picture for each child (could match your theme ie trains from Thomas) Cut each picture in half, hide one half around the room, give the other halves to each child as they arrive - when they find their matching half they get a prize or sweetie - hope that makes sense! I did this with pictures of eggs at easter - it's a good way of ensuring that one child doesn't get all the treasure!

    Hope you have fun

I love this idea for the treasure hunt I think this is a must:T
Corners is a good game for boy of that age (running about!!) as are all the traditional games,

I wanted to check is this the game where each corner is a colour and they run to a corner when the music stops if that colour is picked out of a 'bag' all those children are out?

Thank you sll for all the ideas. I have decided to go with themed plates on plain table clothes any ideas as to where i can get cheap thomas the tank plates?

Thank you so much for all your help my DS is the first child in the family for many many years so haven't been to family kids parties for a long time. I am sure my wedding took less organising than this:rotfl:

  • Good luck with your sons party.
My daughter is also 3 on the 21st December, but we're having the family round to ours and saving the kids party until next year. Also means we dont have to go visiting over Christmas.:rotfl:

It's probably a bit late, but Wilkinsons do really good party bag "fillers" which could also come in useful as ad hoc prizes for pass the parcel etc. They do a big bag of 50 for around £2.50ish. They do boys ones and girls ones and also noisy ones!

I also always do my marshmallow speciality - melt chocolate into a bowl, dip the bottom of a marshmallow in (the pink and white type size) and then put it into a small petit four case. Then dip a smartie or jelly tot into the chocolate and put on top of the marshmallow and then leave to set. Trust me, they're divine - I've made hundreds for various parties (mine and friends') and they've all been polished off by adults and kids alike.

Also popular are fruit "kebabs" on straws. Just thread strawberries, grapes, kiwi, whatever onto straws. They seem to go down well. And rather than jugs of squash I would buy boxes of cup drinks (the type that come with a straw that you stab through the top) and dish them out.

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
