Just wondering how you knew it had anything to do with debt at all? did he say so or are you just assuming?

    Just assuming.

End of the day, neither me or my girlfriend have done anything wrong so we dont have anything to worry about.

    thanks every one :)

The chap who lived in this house before me (well, his mother owned it but he had lots of scams going on and different names) and if I get letters through, I do open them now. I've discovered at least £3,000 worth of debt, 3 court summons and we had the old bill knocking on the door when we first moved in.
    Don't worry too much.

The bloke I bought my current home from had loads of debts (letters left in amongst all the other carp he kindly forgot when he moved) and we had visits from bailiffs. They always knocked and never queried it when we explained situation.

Then we had a couple of Police Officers round one Sunday night looking for him as there was an arrest warrant out for him. They were a bit more suspicious but left all the same. A few weeks later Police called again on a Sunday night (kids were in bed and the knock quite loudly) so I was a bit firmer with them and they were apologetic, said a note should have been added to the file.

Still get letters from local GP for him, they say they can't change the address and the other day he had a letter form the DVLA. I opened this for a reference number so I could ensure he wasn't using my address and it was a disqualification for drink driving.

Can anyone tell me if he'll have to send his licence off to the DVLA for this offence? I'm assuming that then he'll either have to change address or come and ask me for his licence. He moved out nearly 4 years ago.
  • Sometimes addresses that have a record of undischarged debt attached to them can affect your credit rating, especially if some clever company links the name of the previous tennant with the address and then by association adds you to the same address, i beleive this can show up as an association with the debtor.
it might be worth waiting a while and then doing a free experian check, just to make sure no-one has added up two and two to make six. If you find it is the case, you can then write to the companies involved and get the entry cleared.
Something similar happened to me a while ago.
