Hair cut by hairdressing students?

If you have a local college of further education near to you, you could telephone them to ask if they have a hairdressing / beauty course at the college. If not they could probably put you in touch with the nearest one.
Our college near to where we live also have a catering course going on, and a couple of times a week lay on a full luncheon for people to book and go to their Restaurant. Its all laid out like a lovely high class Restaurant. Its quite amazing what is going on out there if you enquire. Happy hunting

I recently had mine washed cut and blow dried at York College and it was the best hair cut iv ever had. the student took so much time and effort on it and every step of the way she was guided by her tutor.
the downside was that it took over 2 hrs in total, so dont plan to be anywhere soon after!

i've had my hair cut several times at the local college and always been very pleased, and its so so cheap, i have shoulder length hair so they can't really go too wrong, think i'd be more worried if i was having a short bob done incase they messed up the layers. The only thing that puts me off is my son is only in pre-school for 3 hrs and i need to allow 30mins travelling/parking each way really so that only gives them 2 hrs sometimes they don't start right away, then they have to wait for the tutor to inspect what feels like every snip. Once had highlights done and was in there from 9-12.30 so boring. Sometimes they allow you to request the same person, one girl did mine a few times and she was near the end of her course so i asked for her phone number and she still does my mums at home a few years later. Quite often they are desperate for men to practice on, i was asked to bring my other half in for a free cut, he quite liked having lots of pretty young things to look at, the one cutting his hair not so pretty though.0

I've never been to the college to get mine done but have heard that it can be the best haircut you have as they are keen and new so take there time (obv), think i will look into it.
ACEY, sorry about your parking ticket0 -
I'm checking prices in a fancy salon in town, and for new clients they have a 25% off, so I'm considering going there. My query is, would it be worth it going for an appointment with an artistic designer or creative designer? Whenever I treat myself to a hair cut I have to go with the most junior stylists and so far I've never had a 'wow' hair cut. The discount would, for once, make a haircut with the senior staff affordable, but is it really worth it or are the hierarchies in salons just faff?
Cheers!0 -
I had mine washed, cut and blow-dried at my local college (Jewel and Esk in Edinburgh) for £6 the other week. They made me feel more welcome than my usual hairdresser who charges more than double that just for a cut. Place was set out really nicely, and the tutors regularly check what the students are doing. It was really busy as well which was reassuring, and I intend to go back to the salon for more beauty treatments in the future!0

just faff in my opinion, the most experienced hairdressers can also be the most stuck in their ways and out of date!! from experience only and not all hairdressers obviously
if you want an expert cut at a fraction of the cost do as above... and go to the college
or even ask the salon if they require models? i used to work in a hairdresser and we were always looking for models. the junior is cuttting your hair but you get the expertise of the senior staff looking on/assisting and checking their work
never saw anyone unhappy with their hair in the time i was there"The darkness has no answers"0 -
You will get a great hairstyle but your rear might be slightly numb by the end of it :P
I used to go to a local franchise training salon and it took them 3 hours to highlight my short hair although to be fair they always did a good job.
I go a more local franchise salon now and see their trainee there, a bit more expensive but they are a bit quicker.
My cut used to cost £7 and the colour was £18 for full head you just cant complain about that really when they give you lots of mags and hot drinks0 -
I always get mine cut at the college now and it's always a great cut. I've also been to high-end hairdressers in the past and been unhappy with it because they've cut my hair the way they wanted to rather than the way I specified.
I also had the college do my hair on the morning of my wedding after the original hairdresser cancelled last minute and it looked stunning. AND it only cost me £25 when the original woman wanted £80. I tipped her £15 because she came in early especially to do it and still saved £40!Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
