i had a complete different experience... the best pill for me is Yasminelle, the newest version of Yasmin... i was on that one till i run out and couldnt find it here. Went to Spain, paid for a 6 months supply and when i came back i had the same problem, i talk to my doctor about it and he recommended Yasmin and gave me 6 months supply !!! sad to say my body did not agree with this pill and i end up puttting them in the bin. I think you should talk to the clinic i bet they have got that one too. I think the chemist charges for yasmin around £20 ?

I was on Yasminelle when I went to the UK to study. After my supply finished, I went to the doctor and asked for prescription. He spent good 5 minutes checking in his medicine register and he said there's no such pill! Apparently, why Europe was enjoying the new and definitely safer Yasminelle, the UK was still using Yasmin, which I ended up taking as well.
Anyway, you should be happy you're getting your pill for free!

Well when I first went onto Yasmin I did a lot of reading online... I think the reason many doctor's wont put people on it is that it's still fairly new and so they don't actually know much about long term side effects. It was a risk I was willing to take at the time to avoid extra weight gain, but it is something that I worry about.

Yasmin is not new any more. There are already other pills of new generation, containing less hormones, therefore safer for your body.

6 months checks are standard. Doesnt mean they will switch meds, but need to monitor your usage.

At our surgery prescriptions are prepped and signed in advance of the check so 90% of the time the patient comes in to see nurse and leaves 15 minutes later with her script all happy.

In terms of cost and generics we will try and keep costs down and use generics when possible but patient health always comes first.

With regard to coils - we are targeted by PCT on ensuring we discuss and inform all patients on the pill about alternative choices. Obviously coil is one of these and we have a leaflet we give out. Its not a hard sell by any means but for some people its an appropriate choice.

Lots of people take the pill for no reason to do with contraception at all.

Lighter periods, healthier skin, weight loss etc, shinier hair, are all possible side effects and for that reason a coil isnt a viable alternative.

Would be confident about asking for what you want and explaining why.
The more info we have the better we can help.
