Door to door salesman-N Power: are they ok?
Options
I just had a door to door salesman from N Power trying to get me to switch, showing me a leaflet about £100 switching bonus and £100 per year direct debit reward. I never make decisions at the door, so managed to get him to leave.
Well now I've done some price comparisons online and it says N Power is the cheapest for me! He said he had some deal that couldn't be found online, though.
Can you trust these door to door guys? Should I call and have him come back? How will we work out what he's giving me and how it compares to what I have with Scottish Power? I've only ever done it online and don't trust door to door people.

Well I don't know of anywhere that will offer you more than £100 cashback for switching to nPower (but I haven't looked too hard) A possible £100 cashback is available to new nPower business customers.
The salesperson will only be able to sell you established tariffs; he wont be able to offer you a unique one.
So as long as its the same tariff as the comparison site said was cheapest anyway, it's worth a go.
Check the £100 DD reward isn't already included in the price the comparison site offered."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Door-to-door salesman work on a very low basic salary plus a higher commision payment for customers they switch. So in geneeral terms they'll operate in a manner that best suits there own needs - which may or may not be in your interests. (there are of course a good number of genuine door-to-door agents as well as the notorius bad apples).
Personally I would let them give you thier pitch and then double chck it yourself do the research and if it works out then switch in your own time. The whole thing about having a deal not available elsewhere is a gambit to get you to switch through him.
Some things to notw with Npower, as you mentioend you get your discounts only after 12 months, the two sets of £100.00 you mention are the one and same thing don't expect two £100.00 payments. Npower might well be the cheaper supplier over a 12 month term but you'll probably find during this tiem and until you've recieved your discount you are paying more than you would with other providers.
Npower also operate something called seasonal weighting on some of their tarriffs. You may notice mention of primary and secondary uintis on your bill. Rather than having a fixed amount per day they increase the number of mor expensive units on your winter bill and decrease the number on your summer bills. So your cheapest bill of the year looks even cheaper and the msot expensive bill is all the more expensive.
all this said it is still quite possible that the tarriff mentioned is working out better for you, especially so as you state youv'e ran your own comparrison.0 -
when they come round to me.. i let them say what they have to say... then ask them to leave me the leaflet plus something in writing and i will consider it... they always say they cant leave anything and its only available today..
so i say bye bye0
