Damaged plasterboard help!!

Options
Hi could anyone help please. We have just removed all the wallpaper in our living room and on some parts the top part of the plasterboard has come away leaving large sections bare. We want to re-paper the walls but are worried that the wallpaper adhesive will just soak into these bare parts and leave bumpy walls.

Can anyone give us some advice - is there something we can buy to seal the walls before we repaper them?

Thanks for any help:T

Normally you wouldn't see plasterboard! I would think it is much more likely that you have accidentally removed some lining paper which was under the main wallpaper and have exposed the bare skim plaster (which covers the plasterboard). If that's the case you can either strip it all back to bare plaster and put up new lining paper or just forget it and carry on with wallpapering. You can buy something called wall size which is a precoat for going under wallpaper - that helps seal the plaster and also makes a slightly glossy surface which can make it easier to move the wallpaper around as you hang it.

  • Can you fill it? Just a small area with some plaster to cover over and level?
