New home - odd problem

Hi All,
This is my first post - need advise on odd problem in new home.
Just moved in and started the deep clean as you do.
When we moved in the house seemed very well maintaned & clean, however in all the nooks & crannies - behind lampshades, airing cupboard, tops of cupboards etc, there is loads of pure white powder - 2~3mm deep behind the bathroom light fitting for example. Its just too pure white to be common dust.
Three vacuum cleans of the bedroom carpet and its' still coming out! It's pure white/odour less.
House build 1969 wimpey home. Survey found asbestos concrete in the facial boards, but deemed safe subject to the usual conditions.
Problem is more noticeable upstairs than down.
Best guesse's so far are talcum powder, or the salt from the watersoftner condensation.
Any suggestions.
Thanks all

hi there,
could it that they sanded down (white) painted walls and didn't bother covering the carpet etc? know that this can create a lot of dust, but still seems v.odd!0 -
If it's in the nooks and crannies, and the house is otherwise clean, I'd guess insecticide powder? Ants, woodlice, or...gulp...possibly something worse?

If you start getting creepy crawlies now you've cleaned it up, that's your answer, I'm afraid.import this0
