Sudden leap in electric bill

My mum has mentioned to me before that you can get your meter checked if you suspect it might be malfunctioning.
This is free if you're right, but if it turns out it's working correctly you have to pay.
I don't know any more about it than that, but might be worth looking into.
I'm in a similar situation - 2 bed flat, Economy 7. My bill for this period was about £90 last year but is now £200.
Meter readings are correct. Responsible is the insane leap in per kWh charges this year. 
Have my new huge bill here. My usage for the last quarter (which I know both start and end meter readings are about right) was:
Normal - 40355 to 41135 (780 used)
Low - 45859 to 47394 (1535 used)
That's for a quarter so approx 90 days. Therefore rough average of 9 and 17 per day respectively...0
