Income support / SSP help please

Hi,
My husband has just been signed off sick, we do not know how long this is going to be for. He will be getting SSP but can any of you lovely people tell me if we might be entitled to claim Income Support as well? There's no way that we can survive just on SSP. We have a 13month old child and another on the way. Any benefits help/advice would be greatly appreciated as we are new to all this. We do get CTC and WTC, will these be affected in any way? Sorry for the length of post, I'm just worried sick at the moment.
Thanks everyone,

clawdipuss

    Hi
If you have savings above £16,000 or you yourself work more than 24 hours per week then more than likely you are not entitled to IS. You say another baby is due shortly (congratulations) if you are receiving statutory maternity allowance or maternity allowance then that may also take you above the threshold for IS when added to your husbands SSP.
If you are awarded IS this will only top up your husbands SSP to around £86.00 per week, but this is a gateway to other entitlements like HB & CTB, free prescriptions, dentistry, eye test’s etc.
Let Tax Credits now of your change of circumstances as if this continues for a while will affect the amount of earnings your husband will achieve by the end of he tax year.
    Hope that helps.
