Ford Ka Key Question
Hi
The Mother-in Law has just bought a brand new ford ka, it was delievered today with 2 keys, both black with a small red area to the fob, when I have had fords in the past the car came with a red key which was used to code the other (or subsequent) keys for the imobiliser, (these other keys also were black with a small red area) anyway, should the ka have come with a "red" key or have they changed this?
many thanks
Jim

They no longer do the red keys, turned out to be more bother than they are worth! I havn't seen one for a Ka, Focus, Fiesta or Mondeo in about 6 years now. If you look in your manual under "coding keys" you will see some instructions for how to programme your keys using the cars ignition. The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0

Get MIL to go to Timpsons (or similar) and get a new key cut. Then take it home and programme it in the car as per the hand book.
You need TWO keys to programme a new key - most people don't realise this until they have already lost one ! Then its too late. The the Ford dealer will then charge you about £75 !!0 -
thanks for that, was a little worried re the red key, didnt want to ask the mil about it as she really does worry about things and to be honest my head could do with out it ;-)
big big big thanks to moonrakerz, thats a great tip
cheers

You need one key + the new key to code the Focus key (which I believeto be the same).
