Hello All,
I have had to evict a tenant. He did not leave a forwarding address. The property is temporarily vacant. He told me he has setup mail forwarding. But the electricity is still on. I need to find out which electricity provider he used. How can I do this, without calling around all the companies.
Secondly who is liaible for the bill?

I believe that there is a way to find out - I would suggest ringing the last known company, seeing if it is with them and if not seeing if they can advise.I have had to evict a tenant. Take a closing reading right now if you have not already. You are liable from that reading, your tenant to that reading. You must take the reading ASAP, because if you don't, you will mix up his liabilities and yours which will not help you.Secondly who is liaible for the bill?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. For next time include a clause in your tenancy agreement requiring the T to notify you of any changes to utility suppliers (or better still, add a clause saying T must apply for permission, which will not be unreasonably withheld blah blah).
That way, when Ts change the supplier and don't tell you you will be able to deduct the costs of sorting out the utilities and changing them back from the Ts deposit.0 -
Have you read the meter? The tenant is responsible for paying the electricity up to the date of eviction, but you thereafter. While the property is vacant you will probably be best switching to a no standing charge tariff.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
