My day in court tomoz...terrified!!!

I Filed my petition with the court today and have got an appointment for tomorow morning to see the judge!!!
I realy am terrified about what happens, I had no option but to go bankrupt, the creditors won't wait and the bailiffs knocking at the door is driving myself and my wife insane, I just want my life back and this is the only way to do it but god i'm shaking just thinking about standing up in that court.
Anybody been there recently ?
What should I expect ?
How bad can it get ?

Fortunately I haven't been down that route but I know that standing in any court (been in one to apply for an off licence!) is very daunting. Just thought I'd wish you luck !!! Sure you'll be fine when you get there.0

Hi there superstar.
This site might give you a few pointers as to what to expect. It sounds like a preliminary hearing to me.

My girlfriend went bankrupt over a year ago, we to were scared about what was going to happen on the day. This is what happened.....
On the 23rd Dec 2004
9.30am :- Went to the court with our paper work, joined the queue of people doing the same thing as us.!!
9.45am :- Gave paper work to court clerk along with the cash they needed to there admin fee's etc. i think it came to about £400. The paper work was processed and we were told to go to the insolvency office at 11.30. We went for a coffee !!!
11.30am :- Went to insolvency office, got seen very quickly by a very nice chap. He went through all our paper work , statements for credit cards, banks etc. The chat was very informal and took no longer than 15 minutes.
You dont have to stand up in court or anything like that its all very informal. We couldnt believe how painless it all was.
Good luck tomorrow it will be fine0 -

Don't worry about it.
It is so easy.
You will look back and kick yourself for not doing it earlier.
When I was infront of the judge, the seat wasn't even warm and i was on my way again.
Goodbye to almost 40k
Chill man chill
By the way, it's not a court like you imagine it is,
It's just a small side office wit hhalf a dozen chairs.
Nothing more
it's just the judge, you and a solicitor if you have one.
It's really that easy and painless.0 -
Friend of mine went through the dame thing. The judge was,if anything, light hearted. This friend felt so much better after declaring.0

THANX EVERYBODY

I am starting to feel a little better, it's just as we all know this debt thing is absolutly consuming and sometimes I just feel like giving up.
Hopefully tomoz will start the ball rolling to a better life.

Yes, good luck tomorrow, sounds like it won't be as bad as you thought. You're not the first and certainly won't be the last. Statistically, bankruptcy has increased enormously. Don't be ashamed, this is where you are in your life, this is what needs to be done and if anything you've learned a huge lesson (I hope!)
