Hi :-)
Just received a direct debit letter from Virgin Media, but no payment amount is detailed. This seems very odd, despite the amount being agreed over the phone. By way of a coincidence, Virgin Media just called, asking if I wanted cable tv ... they were really nice, and genuinely surprised there is no payment amount detailed. People being forced to call up and spend a fortune? Plus am worried that means they are going to take any amount they like, especially as my online account doesn't even show the recent payment I made to them, but shows only bill data from the end of October.
Would much appreciate advice.
Best regards, Cat

What advice do you want?
Have you actually bothered to ring them and ask about the letter?Gone ... or have I?0 -

I'm going to call them when I go out ... was wanting a bit of backup before calling, plus posted so other people could know if VM are doing something wrong. Clearly asking if it's legal for VM to send a direct debit agreement that doesn't actually state the amount.0 -
there wont be an amount on it as your DD amount could change if you order movies etc...
common practice with these sort of direct debits as they are variable0 -
no amount as your bill will change depending on what you buy/use
ie-- phone calls that are not free, movies on demand etc
takes bout 10days for amount paid to show up'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
Precisely, they have no idea how many calls you are going to make, or how many movies you are going to watch.
You would have agreed a fixed fee for your service, the variables (calls, PPV) are added to that.0 -

Direct Debits are for variable amounts
Standing Orders are for fixed amounts.
Think some swotting up on DD is required here.0 -
My thanks to anyone posting to be helpful. I said in my opening post about having agreed an amount with Virgin Media ... am only on broadband ... and also VM called today to ask if I wanted cable tv, plus they themselves were very surprised the direct debit didn't state an amount and advised calling Customer Services. I'm with Virgin Mobile on PAYG; no landline, and understand any phone calls would need to be paid for.
Thanks again, Cat0
