Am I right in saying that AVG9 is not free?

No ~ AVG DOES have a free edition

  • I've used AVG free for a long time and never had a single problem with it, and I've been happy to recommend it to anyone who asks. But for the last 2 weeks I've been plagued by unsolicited popups nagging me to upgrade to AVG 9, two or three a day, and usually when I'm doing something I don't want interrupting. I'm also hearing a lot of stories about AVG 9 crashing people's machines, hogging resources, just the stuff that you don't want from AV software.

I know there are a lot of AVG detractors on this forum but now I'm ready to listen! I need something that's free, that uses minimum resources, updates automatically, and generally doesn't hassle me unless it finds a virus.

    So what's it to be??
i have upgraded to avg 9 about 3 months ago and have had no problems at all.
The only thing that does irritate me is when i switch the computer on and am just about to use it
i get a message that avg is installing updates please restart for upgrades to work. This has happened a couple of times but for a free program that protects my computer i`ll put up with it
Give it a try you can always uninstall it and use something else if it plays up

You've downloaded the 30 day free trial of the pay version instead of the 'free' AVG 9..........

You should have downloaded the one on the left here........ http://free.avg.com/gb-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
