Hey,
Just moved into a new rented place:
The meter is prepayment, how do I get off this?
The old tenant owes over 1000
The prepayment is costing me three pounds a day for a 2 bed is this right?
I topped the thing up with 5 pounds and went away for 2 days, nothing on and it ran out in 20 mins when I came back. Am I paying for old debt? Am I paying standing charges?
Is 90 pounds a month right for heating thats not always on?
thanks for your help

How do you know the old tenant has £1000 of debt? Have you informed the supplier that you have taken over the property so they can remove any debt from the meter? Yes you probably will be paying standing charges. To get off prepay you may need the permission of the landlord, to build up a credit rating with an energy supplier over a few months and possibly also to pay to have the meter changed.
£90 a month may be correct depending on whether you are with the cheapest supplier (you can switch on prepay), how well insulated the property is, how hot you preferrred ambient temperature is and how many hours you mean by not always on! Presumably your hot water and possibly also your cooker is gas?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Phone supplier and make sure they know your the new tenet.
By the sounds of there was proberly a credit meter installed when the last tenent moved in but they never paid the bill and the elci company forced a pre payment meter on them. So I would susupect the landlord didnt even know the meter a was changed so dont see why he would object. If he does an your sure you can keep out of debt have a credit meter put and just ask to have one put in a few mounths before you move out.
Your supplier ask for a deposit depending on your credit rateing. They may also charge for the fitting of the meter. Some dont charge soem do.0 -
Tenants old letters were just lying around concerning debt. Reckon she's done a bunk.
Asked them to change it, they said it would take 12 months to build the credit rating. I have the card which was in the meter, Im hoping the meter is not set to take into consideration the old debt.
So I guess Im stuck with this meter, Im not sure why its so high. I could understand if the heating was regulated to reach a certain temperature but if you turn on a flame, its going to be burning at that frequency right? There isnt a thermostat anywhere just dial to increase the fuel consumption.
Not always on means I cook, turn the hot water and heating on at night then turn it all off. I thought 40 to 50 quid would be reasonable per month for a small 2 bed house. Thats what my aunt pays and her heatin is never off.
Now if I were on benefits and Im paying 30 pounds of the 64 pounds that they give to live off what would I do?

If you have not been sent a new card your still useing his or hers old account. You need get your own card sent out. You proberly are paying for debt you should be abel to check teh meter by pressing the buttons on front there shoudl be screen that sya debt on it i forget wich screen code it is.
Your free to move around suppliers still with a prepayment just there less choice. Once youve got the debt thing sorted.
you trying phoneing other compaines and see if there willing to switch you toa credit meter if you change your supllier.0
