A friend sent me incredimail which has some fun emoticons - don't normally like them but these ones are good. It is fine in Outlook but I use gmail. Is there any way to use it in gmail please? (don't think so, but what do I know)

thank you

Yes saw your post, but it only offers me Outlook or OE based on my ISP's mail. How do I use it in gmail or yahoo mail? (moron proof instructions please) as mostly I use gmail
    thanks

    Apparantly you can:

    Yahoo here:

Personally, I would stick to plain text for a variety of reasons, but mostly because at least you know with a 2kb file you're not getting a malicious payload along with all those flashy graphics. Also, the only way my email address can be authenticated by someone spamming me, is for me to reply or visit their 'unique url', as opposed to me grabbing some emoticon directly off their server.

    Anyway, hth
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

I'll try with gmail. Looks like yahoo's no good as I use the free one, just for webstuff anyhow. A Butler character appeared this am "you have mail, sir" uninvited. Quite funny, but may tire of that so will see how it goes and how invasive it is.
Still got to work out how to actually type a message within gmail and include the daft things. I am v thick when it comes to this stuff....too old!
    Thanks ABH
  • For anyone else thinking of installing Incredimail, have a look at this first from their End User License Agreement....

    Way to go Incredimail !!

Click here for info on how it affects your email recipients. It's a little old but the program still uses the same technology so is still relevant.

    Nasty little program. :undecided

    You're welcome.

Now you have the program on your harddrive, it maybe an idea to backup any of the smilies you have that you like, or run something like Resource Hacker: http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ on the .exe file and extract them.

You could then conceivably put them on some webspace somewhere or under your own domain name if you have one, then just use them as you normally would when constructing an email but instead of using Incredimail you type in the url of the specific emoticon. If I read the way it operates right, it means you put your email client ie: Outlook Express into 'html mode' (turn on graphics) Incredimail just then gives you an easy to use GUI which allows you to point and click at whatever emoticon you need and carries that emoticons url into the email.

Either way, good luck with it. That butler sounds a little bit like the paperclip icon that used to open up with MS Office. The one everyone or almost everyone wanted to kill within 10 seconds of it popping up and offering 'advice' :D

What you could also do is use Gmail Via Outlook Express you may do this already if you do just select, Insert, Picture, Browse and find the smiley you want.

To get smileys free visit http://faccine.forumfree.net/ right click a smiley choose "Save Picture As" save then in a folder like My Pictures or make your own folder, when doing a email just go to this folder as explained above and select any smiley.

The butler exited stage right just as I was about to do him in :D

french friends have incredimail without any problems, but thanks for the warnings - perhaps they are just more honest than some others? Sounds like what we are all exposed to anyway from any webbased stuff?

My Outlook and Outlook Express don't work properly due to wanadoo.fr contamination so I am stuck with webmail, which I can't obviously divert to OE. I did check Outlook (which is the default) and it's no longer operative, it's been diverted to Incredimail. Hmm.
This could be a short romance....

can I save any emoticons I like to my hdd (no webspace) and then nuke incredimail and they'd still be able to be used on emails? There's only a few that I really like - like the one with yellow peril smashing recalcitrant computer....

    Probably for the best ;)

This should work for Internet Explorer & Outlook Express if you goto Start\Run and type this in exactly without the quotes "rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear" then press Apply or Ok don't include spaces other than those included, then it should remove any branding provided by ISP's etc.

    Alternative methods are:

The problem you are going to face is actually getting them into your email. By linking them to an external source you don't have to poke holes in your firewall in order for anyone to download the images to their computer, which is where incredimail comes in. If you look at your isp, I am almost certain that they would have provided you with some free webspace to utilise.
