Best buys on toddler beds and mattresses?

Does anyone have any recommendations on this, please? My son is ready for a bed and I want to get it sorted within the week. His room is tiny, so I want a toddler bed, not an ordinary single for now. But it would be nice if it had the potential to be a bit of a toy too. I'm not prepared to spend loads on a Thomas the tank engine bed but something a bit fun would be nice. Also, it needs to be quite low. (He's nearly 2 and a half.)

Also, I'm keen to pick a decent mattress. I would like one with a cover that can be washed at 60 degrees, and is waterproof for the inevitable accidents during toilet training.

Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

We got the Argos one which was about £80 including the mattress. We were pleased with it and it has lasted us up to age 4.5 when my daughter asked for a higher bed. So then we got a junior divan which is smaller than a single @ 2'6 wide and 5'9 long and a bit lower too. Neither work as a toy though.

The cover washes and there's a waterproof bit underneath too.
