Not received log book after 5 months
My daughter bought her car (not brand new - about 6-8 months old) from Evans Halshaw at the beginning of June this year.
She STILL hasn't received the logbook. She chased the DVLA who told her that Evans Halshaw haven't sent them their bit of the paperwork.
The car needs taxing at the end of this month.
I am going to go into Evans Halshaw with her tomorrow to try and get this sorted. Five months is ridiculous.
What is the legal position about informing the DVLA of a car's change of ownership? Surely it can't be open ended - EH must have some kind of legal obligation to inform them.
Don't know how harsh I can be to the manager when we get to him tomorrow. My daughter won't say boo to a goose, which is why she wants me to go with her, and I want to be speaking from a position of some strength/knowledge!
Any ideas?

Should've been with you in under four weeks.
Apply for a V5C using form V62, downloadable here.
If you have the green tear of slip (V5/2 or V5C/2) then attach this to V62 form and it will be free, otherwise costs £25.
Having said that, there appears to be some [STRIKE]scam[/STRIKE] scheme where the V5 for some preregistered 'new' cars is being 'delayed' by the selling dealers.0 -
Just because the DVLA say they haven't received something, doesn't make it true, they are forever losing things sent to them.
I think you need to fill in a V62 and take it to your local DVLA office to try to speed things up a bit.
If you have the green tear off you might still be able to buy the road tax using this bit. I'd ask a post office if you can still do closer to twhen you will need the tax, if they say yes, then wait and do this, before applying for your V5, because otherwise you might not get your V5 in time for your tax disc.
P.S. a calm controlled attitude with EH will work in your favour. You say she has chased up the DVLA, but has she already chased up EH What did they say? Or will tomorrow be the first they have heard of this missing V5?0 -
Thank you KeithP - I'd no idea a V62 existed, so will definitely be getting on with that.
Thank you too Wig - she has been into EH at least four times and been promised this that and the other. Will go down the V62 route and hopefully see the back end of EH. I have been very unimpressed with their customer service thus far, and definitely won't be revisiting them again.0
