Each system is different, but usually a starting point of around 50% is OK, adjust from there to suit.
What you should not have is a room stat and a TRV in the same room (living room), they simply fight each other for control. Get the TRV removed.

  • So controlling the heat on the main boiler controls. Range from 1 to 9.
Say on a 6 would be more fuel efficant.

Then setting the temps on the various rooms with the trvs is best?

Putting it upto 9 has the effect of heating the system up quicker, but uses more gas is that correct?

I have a alpha 35cd with 17 rads all trvs and towel rail. i do have some rads off as not all required. Try to keep the thermo controll at 18.00. If it goes above 20 then it shoulld shut down as i have set the controller but for some reason doesent. Any ideas?

Yes, try it on 6 to start.
As I said, if you have a room stat and a TRV in the same zone it will never function properly.
If the room stat is at 18C then that is when it should come on and off, not at 20C?

  • No sorry.

it is a wireless controller with the temp showing on the front.

I have it on min and max settings at 10 and 20.

So when the temp on display goes above 20 then this should shut down the boiler? Shouldnt it?

Try to keep the room it is in at 18.00 then that seems fine for the house?

Yes, correct, but you need to address the issue of the room 'stat and TRV in the same zone before anything else.

Bear in mind that turning down a TRV does not reduce the flow and make it colder. It just reduces the temperature at which it closes.

That is not how I and danfoss understand it.
