Just noticed RBS have launched an iPhone app to let you check your balance and mini statement on the go. Doesn't cost any anything to download or use (except data charges if applicable) but there is a warning at the moment that they're experiencing high demand so there may be problems.

I've downloaded it and registered but my details need to be verified over night before I can properly use it.

Just checked on itunes and theres one each for RBS, Natwest and Ulster Bank.

Here's the link for Natwest:

And Ulster Bank (there's a button on the far right that takes you straight to itunes):

let us know what you think of it.
  • So far so good as far as I can see. Although I don't see an option to make transfers?just generAl balance checking?

Great that you only need one app for loads of different banks- it must work in a similar way to the link system?

    Finally a truly useful app!

No option to transfer - just balance, mini statement and mobile topups

Yeah it seems to have the option within the app to add other banks (A&L, first direct, HSBC, Lloyds TSB and NatWest/Ulster in my RBS one). Trying to add my Lloyds account but think they charge for it so I'll probably give that a miss.

In my opinion adding transfers is very very dangerous, and open up banks to another face of exploits and hacks. How safe is your phone? Do you have malware scanners for it?
Most people can use their phone browser to log in normally which I think banks are going to have to permit but still not a good situation.

I've been using the app for a couple of days now and I've found it quite useful. Don't get me wrong - its not going to change your life but its free and its conveniently in my pocket all the time. Some people have been complaining its slow but I've not had any problems so far.

It shows the account balance (only for accounts with a debit card) and the last 6 transactions. There's also the option to change text alerts and top up your mobile but I've not used either of them.

Lloyds charge £2.50 a month for theirs - per account even! - but with most mobile browsers you can access your Lloyds account in the same way as on a normal PC and carry out the full range of transactions.
  • im also a tad disappointed - really need the option to see my savings accounts and to be able to transfer betwen accounts, it costs a fortune having to do it over the mobile if Im out!

Is the iPhone app by Monilink?

I ask as they already have existing phone based banking services for the banks listed and their help pages refer to an iPhone app being available for NatWest, RBS or Ulster Bank customers, with an opportunity to be notified when its available for HSBC, First Direct, A&L and Lloyds accounts

    Regards
