Just come off staywarm as they wanted £109 a month and couldnt afford this.
Any ideas on the most ecomomical way to keep house relativley warm .
2 Bedroom bungalow , 20 years old, combi boiler 6 years old, 1 electric shower, one shower off mains, double glazed except for front and back door, plenty of insulation.
Thermostat in hall for boiler and all rads have thermostats (except for one in hall).
Gas fire in lounge
Most days i do go to work but im on call so never know so get up 7.30 'just in case' , get in about 4.00 - 4.30 .
Not sure about temperature settings for rads/combi/ hall thermostat some say keep on low all the time -
but when i went to my cousins to stay and he did this on the lowest setting it was freezing ( i used to sneak down in the middle of the night and put the setting up
)
or what times they should go on - would be a waste to get too warm if i get a call for work
Any help much apperciated

CH I believe and use a timer to have it set so it comes on when required along with TSR values on rads0
-
should i set the combi to the highest or lowest power
and then control with the thermostat in the hall
then TVRs -
not sure which should be the initial setting0 -
Set your boiler stat high. The quicker it heats the house the sooner the room stat if you have one fitted will shut down the boiler.
If you have trv valves on rads then turn them to low or off in rooms not in use.
I only turn the heating on in my house when i am at home as it heats up to temp in 30 mins or so and thats when its cold.0 -
thanks for that info will try tonight - my other idea is to set the electric blanket onto one of those timer devices then i can turn the heat off when we are out at night and do a running dash into bed when we get in .
OH will think i am keen !0 -

Hiya
I work for an Energy company and give out the following advice to all my clients who i visit at their homes:
A healthy temperature should be between 18-21C
Set your timers to come on 30mins before you get up and to go off 30 mins before you leave the house. Likewise, in the evening, to come on when you get home and to go off 30mins before you go to bed.
Its common for people with room thermostats to start feeling as if their heating system isnt working as it should and therefore turn the thermostat up. If its not coming on until it hits 25-30C its generally because you have gotten used to having a consistant heat in your home. Not because the thermostat isnt working.
Your hot water and heating controls on the boiler should be set to about 3/4 of the way round. Some newer boilers will have an "economy" mark on their settings.
It might sounds like simple advise, but you would be amazed at the amount of people i see each day who come home, turn their heating up to tropical levels and walk around in a vest top when its cold outside. Put a jumper on first and then if you feel cold, turn the heating on. Its the only economical way!!
Always use the timers to set the heating on your boiler - this is the cheapest way!
Hope this helps. If you would like any fact sheets on how to save money on your bills and other energy saving information, PM me and i will email you over some fact sheets
