Richer Sounds 5 Year Super Care

Has anyone had any experience of the Richer Sounds 5 year supercare plan when things go wrong?

I've always avoiding warranties and things, and i've only had one item die on me in 10 years (replaced by the £100's saved when avoiding extended warranties).

But Richer Sounds offer 5 year on Blu-ray / DVD etc for only 10% of the cost of the item, which seems really good.

Is it actually worth it?

It's better value than most warranties. But as to whether you need one at all, it rather depends on the item, it's price, and whether you could afford to replace it after year one if the worst happened.
Bear in mind that most electrical failures happen in the first few months if they're going to happen at all, and that first year is covered anyway (on some brands, such as Humax, for two years).

It's recommended by Which? amongst others as a best buy.
And as for "is it worth it", on the basis that if you haven't used it you can reclaim the cost, as long as you do so within 1 month of expiry, I think it has to be worth it.
  • we have claimed back on the unused warrenty several times from Richer Sounds - good deal, no hastle.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

Good, but rather backs up my point that such warranties are rarely needed these days, as AV equipment is so much more reliable?

On a big expensive TV, maybe. On a Blu-Ray player, I'd say, no. How much would a new one cost you in 5 yrs if they're going south of £100 now?
  • Thanks all.
It's slightly irrelevant after all as the one I want isn't at Richer Sounds - "Advertised, but not available" which is annoying. They offer only the multi-region version for £20 more. I found the unlocking code by googling the model number, it's on the first page!
Anyway I've found it cheapest delivery from John Lewis and has an automatic 2 year warranty from them for no extra cost.
