Cost of scaffolding?

The builder is doing some works on the roof for me & insulating between rafters. Thursday, the scaffolding was up and he is hoping to be able to start work on Monday. The forecast is not very good, and I forgot to ask him whether I am paying the scaffolding by the week and what happens if he cannot do the work next week? Does anybody know whether they are hired on a weekly basis. I dread to think how much it will cost!! Thanks

We had chimneys pointed a couple of months ago and the scaffolding was included in the overall quote. It was a one-off charge for the scaffolding irrespective of how long it was up. I think this was because the builder arranged it and gives a lot of work to the scaffold company.
However I know that sometimes scaffolding is charged by the week - this was the way it was done when we first moved into this house. At that time £200 per week - but this was some years ago.
Best thing is to check with your builder of course.0 -
Usually scaffold is rented on a fixed price for 4-6 weeks. Anytime over the top is added.Generally speaking if theyre a decent company the extra rent doesn't amount to much if its just a few extra days.
The majority of the price you pay is the labour for erecting and taking down.
A lot of companies in my area sometimes leave it up for day and days after youve finished with it until they have another job nearby. It cuts down their costs of storing and transporting the scaffold........0
