Hotel in Key West

Can anyone recommend a nice, not too expensive hotel to stay at in Key West?
Whilst I'm here, anyone got any recommendations for what I should be trying to do in the Keys, apart from fishing and snorkeling? I'm there for about 5 days at the start of July.
Any help would be much obliged.

We stayed in a guesthouse rather than a hotel and so I can't recommend a specific hotel.
However, my best advice would be to find somewhere as close as possible to the Duval Street (western) side of the island, for the true Key West experience. The part near to the airport does not have same atmosphere as the Old Town section.
On the western side of the island, there are countless B&Bs and guesthouses. However, if you want a hotel, your options are slightly more limited on this side. Most of the chain hotels are located nearer to the airport.0 -
Old thread here re Key west
Here's a list of likely priceline hotels.
Usually make a good saving with 3* and 4* places.
Priceline is fairly easy to use though has some caveats.
I've not used it in Key West, but have had some good bargains elsewhere.0 -
We stayed at the Ocean Key Resort right at the end of Duval Street. It's not the cheapest but worth spending a bit extra as you get the best location in Key West.
If you want to see probably the best sunset in the world, from the comfort of your sunlounger, whilst drinking a beer by the pool, this is where to stay.
It's also got it's own little pier with entertainment (music) in the evening. Right next to the hotel is the famous Mallory Square and all the best bars are very close to the hotel.
We booked through the following website, which was very cheap at the time

Hope this helps.0 -
This - http://www.keywestcubanclub.com/Cuban_Club/cuban_club.html - is where we stayed a few years back.
We arrived in Key West with a recommendation from someone which turned out to be a non starter. Just not suitable. We wandered around and did find something nice but which had no availability. The lady there recommended the Cuban Club almost at the end of Duval Street. By this time it was teatime, and when we went to the office nearby, they were more than willing to do a deal if we stayed three nights. I think we had the edge as it was that time of day when they would rather fill the vacancy and get some money rather than see it empty. Not cheap I'm afraid, but quaint, and the facilities are very good.
We had a first floor two bedroom apartment (shops below but that was not a problem) with a large balcony with rocking wicker chairs overlooking Duval Street (good for a g+t any time of day!). Not far from the beach, and a stroll up Duval to see the shops and Malory Square.0
