I bought a car from a garage that was scrapped

I bought a car about 3 years ago from a garage for my daughter, she has tried to sell the car today and found that the buyer has done a HPI check and found that the car was scrapped in2006.
Any idea where I stand with the garage, it is still open and selling cars?
Thanks in anticipation

  • What has she done about the VEL for the last 3 years?
    Did the DVLA send reminders?

    Half baked post OP.

I assume you mean it was some sort of insurance write off? You have driven it without a problem for 3 years so unless you can prove the garage knew I don't think there is much you can do. You should have had it checked when you bought it.
  • When you bought the car did you sign the V5? Where is the V5. That is the key.

It's not uncommon for cars to be written off because a repair would be too expensive, even though they are perfectly viable as vehicles really.
An enterprising garage or individual can then pick them up cheap and get them back into proper shape using reclaimed bits for instance (it is even possible to straighten out a bent chassis!) and turn a profit.

Why not trade it in for a newer model? :)

So what value are you talking here??
what did you pay 3 years ago???
was that cheap then, could explain things?
    What are you asking now?

As said the car could have beena cat c or d right off, both can quite legally and safely be put back on the road, but I thought a trader had to make the buyer aware?, maybe someone can confirm or deny?????????????;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Don’t think there is any requirement to make buyers aware of anything unless specifically asked. I also thought CAT C was recorded on the V5

I allways thought they had to for any total right off, one reassurance of going to garage gone if that is the case, anyone know for sure?
