Old loans and ppi

Hi
I have several old loans that have now been settled, have no paperwork, but feel sure I had PPI on them. How far back can I claim and how do I get the information? Do I have to send off my tenner and request everything?

Hi .. technically (or legally, if you prefer) you can claim as far back as you like, but you are limited to making a claim within 6 years of you becoming aware that there was a mistake/you were mis-sold. Don't worry if organisations try and 'fob you off' with the "you can only claim back 6 years" excuse, because this is not true.
However, where you may come unstuck, unfortunately, is if you don't have the paperwork. The DPA establishes time limits on how long companies are allowed to hold information on/about you - after which time it must be destroyed. A standard SAR request (Di will be along to help with this as she is the "SAR Queen!!") should produce the information a company holds, but, you may find that the information has already been destroyed.
Hope this heps:AIgnorance can be cured, but stupid is forever!:A

Many thanks for that. I have just signed up to the equifax free monthly report- must remeber to cancel, and that has some of the details that I need so here I go again claiming!
Fingers crossed as I will try and go back as far a possible, but we will see.
Thanks again

Hi there Putty.;)
As PaulinWeston suggests a SAR is the best option here.
Also to make you aware if you do happen to just have the account number details that you should be able to find on old banking statements, where the loans were paid monthly, the account number should be shown next to the repayments made every month.
If you bank online, this should allow you to check statements as from 6 years etc.
However, a SAR may even enclose details of older loan information if your lucky, as PaulinWeston says, no matter how long ago, still give it a go.
For the SAR letter template here:

Best to post by recorded delivery, for your proof of posting.
Another suggestion is, if you have no account numbers, on the SAR letter, enclose all your details, your date of birth, amy old address if any when you taken out all the other finance, and surnames etc.
Or what some do is request a Credit Report for approx £2 from the likes of for example@
Experian, Equifax and so on, google them into the search engine for more details, I am aware they should enclose details of all your finance records, but not too sure on how long they would hold them.
There are ways around it.;)
Good luck with this and if you require further help, just yell. The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Well done.
Although it is normally that of 40 days they do have, so they may write back to let you know that they received your request for the SAR, but the request may take up to 40 days.
No harm done though, good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"
