Camcorder for a 14yr old

Hi,

My 14 yr old has been asking for a camcorder for his birthday/christmas for a long time now. He's going away on Thursday for a week, and he's really hoping that I'm going to get him one as a slightly early (two weeks) birthday present.

I'd love to get him one...it would be great...but I'm just so terrified he'll lose/break it.

I remember back at Christmas Superdrug were selling camcorders for about fifty quid...does anyone know if they're worth buying, or are they just rubbish. And is there anything on the market for less than £150 that is worth buying.

Thanks..in advance

Thanks for these...I don't think I can get the Canon ones in time from the internet, but I might think about the Panasonic one.

So nobody's ever actually tried one of these cheapo ones then?????

Superdrug have one on offer this week for about £69 - sorry didn't take too much notice of the spec but it might be worth a look for that price. (I just bought a digital camera from there today for £27 and I'm really pleased with it)
It's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission ;)

Talked myself into one of the £139 panasonics, only to discover that they're out of stock just about everywhere....c'est la vie. Perhaps I'll head into superdrug...I can go equipped with my 10% off voucher (see other forums).

Try the local electrical supermarkets ie currys, comet etc. They should still have clearance models of non-digital/DV model s such as HI-8 etc. These, although not digital are still very very good. I've had a basi sony one for 7 years and it still knocks socks off many on the new ones. Don't be fooled by the price, go for a well known brand and he'll be sorted for quite a few years.
