Advice needed - Credit card company that doesn't send out cards special delivery

Need some advice. I need a new credit card asap, however at the moment i’m away abroad working for the next 6 months. Will be back in the UK maybe once every six weeks or so if i’m lucky, but only at the weekends. Need to know which credit card companies send out credit cards non-signed for delivery, as i won’t be able to sign for it. I can’t go pick it up from my local post office depot, as cleverly they're closed at the weekend and i can’t even get anyone else to pick it up for me, as only the person it addressed to can pick it up and you need ID.

I’ve tried ringing and asking some credit card companies, but with limited success, think they all think I’m some sort of fraudsters! Doesn’t help that i live in London, a credit card fraud hotspot apparently. The only help i’ve got so far was that HSBC could send me a card to my local branch to pick up, but guess what it’s not open at the weekend!

Please can someone help!! Thanks

    Hi

I don't think I've ever had a credit card that was sent special delivery!

They've all just been sent normal post and been on the mat when I've got in. :)

I recently got a Post Office card which was delivered by normal post. Because of the strikes, the pin number and card arrived on the same day! Thank goodness I have an honest postman!
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
  • my local PO depot is open half day Sat AM, worth checking if yours is too if you haven't already.

  • Whenever i've had credit/debit cards sent to me before, they've always been sent out signed for delivery, think it prob cus i live in London!

Post office card would be ideal, as no forgeign exchange loading fee when im abroad. Anyone from London remember if their Post office card was sent out normal post?

I agree, it's down to area rather than issuer. I live in a nice village and have never had cards delivered here anything other than regular post. When I lived in a town centre, cards sometimes came special delivery or in hand-written outer envelopes.

So much for the HSBC advert where the guy accidentally drops his card over the side of the cruise ship and manages to arrange a replacement in some far flung destination with one simple phone call !

I guess that is for people that pay a huge card fee every year.

Have you tried American Express ? They can (or used to be able to) arrange replacement cards to be collected or manufactured at one of their travel offices. Not sure what the deal would be for a new account, but could be worth asking. If you fly in and out of Heathrow, the Amex office there might be able to issue replacement cards.

As with HSBC though, a bog-standard account may not have such services.

None of this is of any use to the OP who wants a new credit card. No bank is going to send a brand new card to a foreign address - what would stop fraudsters phoning up and saying "Hi, I'm working abroad and need a credit card, please send me one here. Oh, by the way, send the bills to this address in the UK."... Not going to happen!

I have just received my second HSBC credit card. I didn't sign for either card - and I live in London.
For post office collections, somebodyelse can collect items for you - as long as they have ID for themselves and also ID for you.
Is there no way of spending a weekday (even just a morning) in the UK so that you can collect the card from a branch? Most banks, not just HSBC offer this option. I realise it's not ideal, but if you need the card urgently, you might just have to do that.

    Check this out:

Options for missed special deliveries include redelivery to an alternate address, or delivery to a local post office (that would be open Saturday morning).

That should enable you to get the card IF they send special delivery?
