Bed linen sizes

I am looking for bed linen for a single bed and am considering purchasing double size flat sheets so that they took in far enough.
I have some sheets I used with my old bed that are 180 and 190 cm wide (71" and 75" respectively). The depth of the old bed was about 20cm (8") and even then I found those sheets pulled out; a nuisance in the middle of the night to have to remake the bed!
I went down to Dunelm Mill and the single sheets in there are 180cm wide.
I have another sheet (not sure how old it is!) that is 210cm (83") wide and 234cm (92") long and that's great.
Is it just me or do others find linen is too small for the type of bed it's intended for?
I'm considering getting double flat sheets as that way I know they will fit no problem.

I always buy flat sheets for size bigger than the bed on which I intend to use them, for exactly the reasons you outline. And, as you allude to, the manufacturers don''t aways factor in the depth of the mattress, so you can't be sure that the stated size will be sufficient.Warning ..... Ikea fitted sheets are a bit bigger than standard.

I only use bottom fitted sheets and dont use top sheets at all.
My duvet covers are washed as often as i would wash a top sheet.
less washing - 1 sheet, 1 duvet cover instead of 2 sheets and 1 duver cover a week. that saves washing 52 sheets a year.
You can buy half fitted top sheets, that would solve the problem.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
