  • Thanks for all your help Kegg (and others), I now have a very good idea of what to expect :)
I will be looking for a deal to Sharm, quite flexible with the dates but I'd like to spend New Years eve over there departing out of London.

Any tips/help would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks

Hi i am a holiday rep in Sharm.

There are lots of things to do here, for culture you have Cairo, Luxor, St Catherines Monestary (loaction of 10 Commandments, buring bush, Mose's Mountain), Star Gazing (camel riding, meeting the Beduoins; people that live in the desert, learning about their life, beliefs and rather odd traditions. Eating with them in the desert (lovely food!!) and then being joined by an astromoner to talk you throught the night sky, you can see the milky way with your bare eyes, Also have telescopes set up on the desert for you to see planets. The old market is full of little bazars which you can just take a taxi to, go in the evening though there is more atmosphere. Do expect some hassle here, but join in with the spirit of it, have a laugh with them. That is the culture here! Its all part of it.

Other popular things to do; quad biking, diving, boat trips, go karting, snorkelling.

Please, please, please get yourself adequate travel insurance! Your E111 does not cover you here. I have seen many clients getting into difficulty becuase they don't have insurance. Also please book with a reliable excursion company, i.e your rep. Is your enjoyment and safety really worth saving a couple of £s on??

Visa - if you are not planning on leaving sharm you do not need to buy a visa, if you change your mind about this during your holiday dont worry your rep can arrange a visa for you.

Taxi/Transfer - You should pay no more that 100 egyptian pounds for a taxi to any hotel!!!! I have had many guests pay up to £50 for a 10 min journey. Always agree the price PER TAXI before you get in and confirm the currency! Or many online companies offer transfers very cheaply, so if its your first time to sharm it would be advisable to book a transfer. I would stay away from ResortHoppa though.

Flights - Thursday is usually the cheapest day because we have the most flights on that day. But we do get flights everyday.

thomson, monarch, thomas cook, kiss, coral blue, jet2, easyjet, BA.

    Hope this helps.

If you have any questions please ask :D

    Hi Katie and all

Can you recommend a cheapish hotel nearish to a beach that has good snorkelling for a poor swimmer? I'm a bit bewildered with the amount of choice in Sharm.

    Many thanks

Royal albatros moderna... we stayed there last month.. It is advertised as a 5 star but we'd give it a 3 & halfish. Food quality, entertainment, drinks etc are all better than average. They have their own beach with the longest jetty. Only 10 minutes from the airport, 20 from Naama bay. The taxi will take 50 Egyptian to naama bay. Pre book your airport transfers with sharm club. I am not an agent and I booked our transfers with them. Reliable company. If you fancy more info on this resort, Read my previous thread where I have left a very lengthy review about it.
