Roof replacement

I think you are looking in the wrong place if you expect your insurers to pay up.
Problems in any roof are likely to become first apparant after a bad spell of weather! Without meaning to be disrespectful, you won't notice that the roof is wearing after a dry spell or a light shower. All of your ridge tiles are showing signs of wear - not of roof tiles or ridge tiles being ripped off during a storm etc.
I think you're angry because you've misunderstood what the policy is for. You have a leak that needs repairing, I doubt you need a full roof - even if you did I think £10k is a bit much!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Im angry because I perceive the insurance to have used a surveyor to get out of paying.
My understanding of what an insurance policy is for is to insure your property.
I just felt that the insurance company should be expected to fix the leak.
Ah well, water is good for you anyway...0 -
the insurance company can also check to see if their was severe weather at the time of your claim , they will do anything to get out of paying up .
the surveyor was more than likely sent out to assess the condition of your roof and if he spotted loose ridge tiles with the "pointing missing " he would probably go with the wear n tear .
why would you rip the felt though to get at the tiles ???
sorry to be blunt but its their to stop water coming in0 -

Unfortunately, as the water was coming in in spite of the felt, ie at the bottom of the roof where I would guess the felt is supposed to overlap with the outside edge but doesnt, I had no choice but to rip it in order to stem the flow temporarily.0
