renting with a ccj

Hi all, me and my girlfriend are in the process of renting a house and have paid the £200 deposit I have filled in the paperwork and put down that I had a ccj in 2008 and I am paying it back each month. My girlfriends dad has also filled in a form to be a guarantor. does anyone know if my ccj will cause any promlems even though we have a guarantor? the agency we are using is harvey-scott if that helps.

many thanks Danny

  • You have told the agency about the CCJ already haven't you? What did they say?

  • Tell them (ideally face2face rather than on the 'phone) and anything else that might not be welcome news...

What Landlords & Agents really don't like & makes them uncomfortable is surprises,.... but if you're upfront, positive, and very open you might - just might - find an agent being sensible who will do the right thing.

    Good luck! Cheers!

take in bank statements without being asked to show that you are paying it off - a LL can tell a lot about a person from their bank statements.

Yes, an offer of a guarantor should circumvent any problem with your credit record. Put simply, the landlord knows that they can get the guarantor to pay any rent arrears and this reduces the future risk of your being their tenant.
  • thanks for the advice :) will keep our fingers crossed
