how do i find out what bank accounts etc my deceased father had

my father passed away suddenly a couple of weeks ago and by the time I found out his ex wife had emptied his house stripping it bare. emtying the house was more important to her than telling me my father had died!
Any way she claims that there were no documents in the house whatsoever so I dont know if he had bank accounts etc. Also he always drove but there are no documents re his car and none of his neighbours know what kind of car he was driving as he had changed it recently.
I was hoping someone might be able to tell me how to find out which bank accounts he had and how to find out what car is his.
Although the ex wife emtied the house and took all his stuff it's me thats been left with the funeral bill so need to find out if he had any property.
Thanks in advance
ian
P.S. I dont know if this makes a difference but my father lived and died in scotland.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Im quite concerned about the ex wife emptying his house. Surely the house and the belongings had nothing to do with her since shes his ex.
Cant offer much advice with regards to the bank accounts etc bar checking the post over the next month to see what comes through.
I take it his car wasnt parked at the house?

I think you need to find out what happened to his will. If a solicitor is dealing with the estate, they can send a note round all the banks asking if any accounts were held - we used to get these in quite regularly when I worked in the bank.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Just a quick thought if the ex still has keys change the locks so she cant get at the post and maybe you will find out what you are looking for. Best bet is to contact a solicitor or citezens advice who might point you in the right direction.
Sorry to hear about your loss and hope everything works out ok for you.The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Contact the police and ask them to run a search for any vehicle registered in your father's name.0

The police cannot give out that information.
If the ex was officially an ex, then she had no business taking anything and surely is guilty of theft by doing so. That is something the police should be able to help with and under the cloak of believing she may have stolen his car as well, they can do the vehicle search.
If she was not officially the ex and was entitled to clear the house, then she should also be picking up the bill for the funeral.0 -
