Paying BT for what?
If you go to Virgin Media (as opposed to Virgin National), then you have no need for an ADSL line, as your phone will be on a cable service. No free lunch, and no free laptop

a lot of plans for bb phone etc you need to still pay bt line rental so just want to be clear that if I rent one from virgin I no longer need to pay bt line rental as I would if I went to sky for phone.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

In simple terms, the distinction is between Virgin's cable network and their offerings now available in many non-cabled areas via the former GPO (now Openreach) PSTN (copper wires) infrastructure.
If you're in a cabled area, you can dump BT altogether and have everything delivered via Virgin Media's cable network.
In either case, be prepared for high voice telephony call charges though.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
If you switch to Virgin National and rent your line from Virgin (your words) then of course you won't have to pay line rental to BT.
If you switch to Virgin Media, you have no need of your BT ADSL line, but bear in mind that if later you want to move away from Virgin, you have to get a BT ADSL line reconnected in order to be able to get any other broadband service. No free lunch, and no free laptop

virgin national ? virgin media sorry did not realize two different ones - currently tied into contract on bb with bt until next yr so gonna need the bt line but all depends on cancellation charges with bt to move the lot over from them and the sky to virgin too,I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Virgin only have cable in about 50% of the country, so for non-cable areas they use ADSL and the BT line into your house plus a Freeview box. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
