    Ask them for another one.

I discovered a few years back that one company I had worked for had given me two. One sent by post and one they handed to me.

Employers are not allowed to issue duplicate P45's - they really need to contact the people at the wrong address to retrieve the form.

You fill in a P46 from your new employer which will put you on a week1/month1 code ie not Emergency/Basic rate. The tax office will have been sent a carbon of the P45 sent out, and will send your new employer the correct code in a few weeks.

An employer is not allowed to re-issue a P45 - they can give you a statement of earning which is a letter confirming the figures, but that will not be useful to you at this point. I assume you neglected to tell the employer that you have moved house?

I'm in a similar situation where I was due to be made redundant, had 4 weeks holiday accrued and moved during that 4 weeks. My last working day (and the day I moved and gave my line manager my new address) was 2nd sept, my last employed day was 25th sept.

After waiting for my p45 to hit the mat in the new house, I called and found out that a couple of days after my redundancy they posted my p45 to my old address. P45 and payslip sent out to old address 5th Oct.

I did inform my employer (line manager) before I went on holiday. She had at my exit interview written confirmation of my date of move and my new address.

They still won't accept any responsibility for this and are sending me a letter (eventually) for the jobcentre confirming that I'm redundant and confirming my last paypacket contents (as they sent my last payslip to the same address). They still haven't produced this letter they promised.

This isn't really an issue aside from the fact the JC won't take my wages off my account until I produce the letter or p45 (meaning my parter and I are living of his £50, plus whatever the MIL decides to give us for her share of what I cook only and have been since we moved)

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
