Honestly....I love tea and scones, with good jam, ripe berries and whipped cream. Keep it simple and enjoy!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
"No man is worth, crawling on the earth"- adapted from Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio
Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

English tea parties are so nice.
We did one for visiting family in the summer.
I called it a garden party.
I baked about 20 large scones. Bought strawberry jam and clotted cream. Put strawberries around and served tea or coffee.
Family still talk about it.The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
In addition to the deliciousness already suggested, may I suggest:
Custard tart (individual ones or larger ones)
Seed Cake
Some sort of tea loaf or malt load (thickly spread with butter!)
Biscuits - including chocolate fingers and iced rings.
Rock buns
and although Afternoon Tea is very English....I have never yet had anyone refuse a slice of German Tray Bake...Lidl do a basic but acceptable Apple Crumble Tray Bake (Apfelstreuselkuchen) or if you or a friend can do it you could try this:

It is a Bienenstich or bee-sting bake and is seriously good with a cup of tea!0 -
Thank you for the tips troops!
Shall get myself down to the poundshops for cutlery and plates....
Scones are about the one thing I CAN bake so i think I will stock up on cream and jam!
Thank you so much everyone xx0 -
In this cold weather how about some hot buttered crumpets with a pot of tea? I would also do scones with jam and cream,a cake-either a dried fruit type or a chocolate or carrot cake, something with pastry-either a chocolate eclair, egg custard tart or a fruit pie, a biscuit such as a shortbread or anzac.0

A few years ago my sisters spent loads of money having 'tea at the Ritz' in London, so as a joke I did a 'tea at the kips' (see my name) with China tea cups/plates (which I bought from ebay cheaply) etc and cakes on cake stands and it went down a storm...except all the men wanted to come too lol. this is now a 6 monthly event as everyone loves it so much and it's hard to fit all my family in lol0

I'm not a vegetarian, but when I entertain vegetarian friends, I always make sure there's suitable food provided.
Funny how it doesn't seem to work the other way round...
I would suggest ham and mustard sandwiches, quiche lorraine, and mini sausage rolls. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

Thank you for your response.... I won't be preparing meat, my carnivore friends know this too... My reasons...
- I have never cooked meat as I haven't eaten it since I was 7. Cooking cakes is going to be challenging enough let alone learning to cook meat from scratch. Food poisoning all round if I were to cook meat. I may as well stick at what I rock at.
- The feel and smell of meat turns my stomach. I am not a preachy vegetarian but it grosses me out.. The carnivores will cope without for an afternoon.
-Any leftover foods I won't be able to eat (not very moneysaving) and at the moment I need to be able to recycle myself rather than send people home with a party bag
There you go! There's my justification!Keep all the tips coming people!
