Bt 1571

Is there any way I can avoid charges on other peoples 1571. As you know it costs every time you get the thing, unless you're on a package (I'm on weekend and evenings only) So now when I call in the daytime I pay for a connection 10-20p and no conversation! Grr

When you get 'caught' by 1571, convince whoever it is you're calling (it's frequently friends and family) how nasty it is.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Ring BT and tell them you dont require the service.

The OP is trying to avoid getting charged when he hits someone else's 1571 'service'.

The only way to do that is to convince them to get it switched off so their callers don't get caught.

  • BT answer takes the message after 7 rings so just wait for 6 rings if no answer then hang up = no charges

    Indeed.

OTOH, if the person you called didn't have 1571, you'd have heard an engaged tone, would have realised they were busy on a call, would not have been charged anything and probably would have decided to try again after a few minutes.
