I so want rid of BT but even if I change to another provider, wouldn't it still be BT who do any repairs to the line? I could get rid of my landline all together if it wasn't for wanting the internet. However, if I did this, wouldn't my only options be cable or a dongle to still get on the internet? Neither are available in the area I live.

BT Openreach are the privatised monopoly who "look after" the phone lines. All phone line suppliers have to use them. However there is no advantage in having a BT account - any supplier can deal with them in the same manner.

If you can get cable, then you can just have broadband (infinitely better broadband than ADSL in most cases) without a phone line - it doesn't rely on the ancient copper phone network. However that won't be the best deal financially (taking only one service from three)

Most people will probably get faster broadband via ADSL than 3G however where we are (@ 1.6 miles from the exchange), 3G is 50% faster than ADSL so we got rid of our phone line 2 years ago.

If your ADSL speed is 2Mbps or less, then 3G might be worth a look.

You could pop along to the various provider websites (o2 and Three especially) and try their coverage maps - just because one isn't available where you are doesn't mean that none are available (we can barely get a Vodafone signal at all here, but get good o2 and 3 signals)
