Having read the thread so far I think the bigger house is the one to go for. You spend a lot more time in the house than in the town.

The first time I actually went into town was about 2 months after we moved in and even then I only go about twice a month. Somewhat along the same lines, when we first moved in, we had our bed in the biggest bedroom that has an absolutely lush view from the window. The only problem is the only time we were ever in the bedroom was getting in or out of bed so I decided one weekend to move everything into the second largest bedroom and turn the bigger one into our study, and now we actually end up being able to enjoy the space and the view more.

Well, I actually spend mroe time in town than at home right now! We go out by 10.30 every day and come home around 3.30, but I guess it won;t always be like that (it is easier to amuse her outside than at home).

ANyway we went to see the smaller house and it is SO small we couldn't live there, so it's not a goer.

We are in the process of seeing the last few things in our budget that are on the market, including stuff we previously wrote off from seeing them on paper, and if none of them are right we will have to wait.

I do love the other house but still come up short when I think of where it is, so I'm just not sure we should buy it.

Henley is one of the most expensive areas in the country - are you able to spread your net wider for suitable properties?

No. I've lived here for years and I want to stay here. I won't countenance moving out of the town. There's a reason it's expensive and it's because it's a lovely place to live. (Can you tell we've had that conversation?!)

If you don't want to move again, you need to check out the local schools and their admission criteria. You don't want to be travelling that 40 minutes to and from school every day because the lovely little local school is a faith school and your face doesn't fit.

The schools aren;t a problem - I know that already. We are 'of faith' anyway so it wouldn't be a problem :)

It sounds to me like you don't want either property. Are you in a rush to move? Have you sold your property? Can you not wait and see what else comes on the market?

I would look at the bigger house and the bigger picture. Do you need to be closer to town for work or anything ? are there decent shops locally ? what about schools in the future or more kids ? you may want to move again 1 and half miles isnt too bad to walk

i live close to a big city (liverpool)15 mins car & closer to a few large towns 7 mins drive & 10 mins walk been to all less than 6 times this year (good village shops etc.)10 mins walk away
