Central heating problem - radiators keep coming on!

As it's warmed up now, a couple of weeks ago I set the central heating controller so that the heating no longer comes on, but the Hot water does.
There are various settings for these: OFF / ONCE / TWICE / CONTINUOUS. So the hot water is set to TWICE, but the heating is OFF.
But my radiators are still coming on! How can this be??? They are piping hot, but only when the hot water is activated. I don't recall this happening last year, or the year before...
Is the controller faulty?

I'm sure someone technical will come along with a more detailed reply, but I remember we once had a similar problem with our system it was something called a divertor valve and the seal inside has perished so it did not work properly.Marsh Samphire0

Some more info on the system / boiler type would be useful but it sounds like the diverter valve is stuck open.
Could be its simply stuck or the motor needs replacing.
If its the motor its a simple and not to costly job.0 -
In the meantime, many of these valves have a lever on them so that you have move it by hand to the correct setting.0

OK, I shall follow up when I get home tonight.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0

Wonka, The self same thing happened to me very recently. It's simply the valve on your hot water tank that has stuck and alanobrien is right, it's not time consuming or costlyRegards

It's an "iIdeal Classic LXFF & FF Fanned Flue Gas Boiler". It's also stamped "FF260" on the instruction sticker, which may be the model number??Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -

Is it something I can fix myself, or should I get hold of a Gas engineer?Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
mine go on upstairs when on water only, only way to switch them off is to turn the tap off, which can cause later leaksOne day I might be more organised...........

which tap are you referring to? Is this a tap on the hot water cylinder??Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
Sounds like the motorised valve needs changing.
If it is a Honeywell valve the cost to change it for parts and labour should be around £90 + vat. Yes, you should have a Corgi engineer to change it.0
