Alternatives to a Flip?

My wife has added a Flip movie camera to Santa's list.
This is alien territory to me and I don't know what else is on the market that might be a better alternative.
I'd prefer removable memory (the basic Flip's isn't, I gather) and AA batteries (which the basic Flip does use) but am I overlooking anything?
Any suggestions, please?

The Flip Ultra HD is a fantastic little video camera. It has 8 GB of internal memory, which is enough to store about 2 hours of footage.
I previewed just about every compact video camera before I purchased the Flip, and the models with removable memory (which is a nice feature to have), such as the Kodak Zi8, didn't have as good quality video.0 -
Thanks, Marty J. I need to check whether the Ultra HD has removable batteries (which I will do). Given the short lifespan of rechargeables, there's no point buying devices which have built-in batteries, IMO.
Appreciate your help
