Urgent advice needed! - Please help!

I am going Bankrupt on November 23rd and I have just opened a letter to say a representative of Sainsbury's will be visiting my house on the 18th!

I'm in a terrible panic!

I don't know what to do.

I haven't answered a single call from creditors as my father was terminally ill and subsequently just recently died and I just couldn't handle it.

There is a number to call on the letter if its not convient.

I just don't know what to do.

My instinct is telling me to speak to them but what do i say.

Please respond. I'm desperate!

    Hi Swampmonster,

Don't panic. Even if they do come there is nothing they can do and you don't have to talk to them-just leave them on the doorstep. So you could just ignore them and then be out or just in, but ignore them when they arrive. Being a massive worrier myself though (understatement of the century!), I know I'd like it to be dealt with so I didn't have the worry of them coming. If I were you I think I'd call and say can you postpone it, as you're away with work or something similar? Make a date after the 23rd and then call them on your BR date telling them the good news!

You could tell them you'll be going BR if you like, but I'd say the way I mentioned above would be the easiest and probably what I would do.

Try not to panic-just give them a quick call and you'll feel much better.

Hugs to you hon-you really have had a crappy time of it. I'm so sorry to hear about your father.

hmm i'd be tempted to do as cg said above, and change the app til after your br date, then you can contact them and give them the br details. if you just let them come and hide you will be in a blind panic and it will be very distressing i imagine.
you're so close now, keep strong, nearly there x

    Thanks CG and confused76

I am concerned that if it speak to them it will be like a broken record of' we need a payment today' and I just don't know how to handle that as I'm like nervous wreck at the moment.

Really don't want them coming to the door as the kids are scared enough by the phone calls as it is. ( Thank goodness one of my children checked caller id on the morning my Dad died as I had already ignored the phone once thinking it was creditors. That just gives you some idea of how bad things have got.)

I'm sure I read somewhere if you tell them you are taking financial advice from CAB which I am they have to give you 30 days .

    Is this right?

I'm not sure they *have* to give you 30 days, but most will give you a bit of an extension.

I'll second the opinions others have given in this thread and call them, rearranging the meeting for after your BR date. Specify a date, then they can't suggest anything different. And as difficult as it is for you at the moment, try to stick to your guns - if they change the subject, just tell them you'll discuss it at the meeting on the Xth, say thank you, and put the phone down.

I'm really sorry to hear your news SM - my thoughts are with you and yours.

    Take care,

    Hi again,

I don't know that they HAVE to give you 30 days, but we actually answered the calls and just told our creditors we'd be going BR, and they did say they'd call again in 30 days (some said 7, some said 14-we just said they could if they wanted but they'd get the same answer). We actually found all our creditors were fine-didn't get nasty at all and actually stopped ringing like they said they would in most cases. Some people prefer not to tell creditors about their impending BR but we did and as I say it worked out quite well for us.

If you choose to ring them but not tell them about the BR, and they ask for payment, you just need to say you can't make a payment. Tell them very clearly you won't be in when they call and can they come another time, then put the phone down.

I know how hard it is, hon, but you really will feel better once you've 'dealt' with it.

  • Hi Monster,

There is nothing they can do to you. They may try it on but thats about it. If they do turn up at your door just tell them you wont talk to them and if they dont leave you will be calling 999.

Just remember, your in charge not them!!
  • What copier_guy said. Don't let them get to you, you're in charge!
  • Thanks.

I just want all the pressure and worry to go away. I thought I'd booked the court quick enough to avoid any people turning up on my door like this.
  • If it makes you feel better,

I have been 'promised' a door step visit for over a month now. no one has turned up.

All the tea & biscuits i have wasted!!
  • Thanks copier-guy.

Was it a Sainsbury rep due to visit you?
