help with virus please!

i had a message at the end of dec. saying i had to change from avg6. to avg7. when i did this and ran the prog it showed a virus -java/byte verify. status-infected embedded object.selected object is located inside the archive and cannot be healed.can anyone tell me what to do?thanks for any help you can give .

  • The infected file is probably in the System Restore archive if you're using XP.

    Disable System Restore (this will delete all system restore points), run another AVG scan then re-enable System Restore.

  • I had this one a while ago, and it is often not a virus as such, but you CAN do with getting rid of it. Mine was not in system restore, but in a normal java cache directory.

    This link told me how to solve it.

    Let us know how it goes.

    thanks to you all for your suggestions!
    i did what you suggested with the system restore and
    running avg again and it isn't showing up any more. what does this do to the system restore?
    has it been deleted?sorry if this is a daft question but i'm new to all this

    When you turn off system restore it deletes all restore points.

    You can turn it back on if you want in a similar way to turning it off.
