I Pod touch which generation?

Please can you explain the generations of the ipod touches and which is the best as im on the hunt for one for my daughter and was watching the ipod refurbs as you still get the 1 year warrenty and they had first and second gen ones which i missed the 32gb one but on amazon the second gen ones are more expensive that the 3rd gen ones  Are they promoting the new ones with a lower price or are the second gen ones better also how bad would the first gen ones be should they appear back on the refurb site?

Sorry for all the Q's so all info much appreciated.

    1st Gen: Came in 8 & 16GB (maybe 32 as well!). Featured wi-fi, firmware version 1 (updatable).
2nd Gen: 8, 16 and 32GB available. Added features: Built-in speaker, volume control buttons,Nike+ipod, microphone support (via in-line mic), bluetooth support (not available until firmware v3) and firmware version 2 (upgradeable).
3rd Gen: 32 and 64GB available. Added features: Voice control, voice over, improved processor, built-in mic, firmware version 3. The new 8GB models are 2nd gen with the updated software.

Best deal if you can find one would be to get a 2nd Gen, and update the software via itunes (costs about £10, I think? Probably wrong)

Thank you that then rules out version 1 and concentrate on 2nd or 3rd as its the 32gb one we are thinking about. Apple had the refurb 32gb 2nd for around £180 amazon have 32 gb 3rd for £205 or if I drop size apple have 16gb 2nd for £160 or the 8gb 2nd £120 which way would you go for a 15 year olds xmas?
