Sky+ Box - Noisey

Hi All.

I recently sold a Sky+ box on eBay, and have just received a message from the buyer asking for a refund as the box makes a high pitched noise when in use and on standby.

The box always made a slight noise, this was due to the HDD and Fans inside, and a quick google reveals that many Sky+ boxes make this noise.

The noise never bothered me, so, what would you do in this situation?

If it is an inherent flaw of the design of the Sky+ box, then the buyer who has said they will be buying another one of eBay is most likely to have the same issue with another box. Plus, its not technically faulty.

I am all about being fair, but I'm a little on the fence in terms of what action I should take.

Could I ask for it back, listen to the noise myself, and then make a judgement, or would you just simply refund?

Appreciate your thoughts.....

Best bet would be to email buyer with links to show they make this noise. Sending it backward and forward in the post carries to many risks.

If they raise a dispute you could very well lose so try and persuade them that it is normal. Are you sure the noise was reasonable?
  • Some Sky+ boxes whine more than others - my mam's makes the normal fan/HDD noises, but mine really does have a high pitched whine. Some people are more sensitive to high frequencies than others.

They can be noisy our one used to be. Personally I would point this out to the buyer but tell them if they want to they could send it back (at there cost) for a full refund. Thats what paypal will say if they raise a dispute

    Hey.

I've pointed this out to the buyer and asked him how he wants to proceed.

    Thank you for the opinions!
