    Pooky - I made and sold salt-dough for years privately and at craft fairs. Are you putting one, fairly thick coat of varnish on? I always put 3 coats of varnish on as thinly as I could. Make sure your dough is COMPLETELY dried out. That looks quite a thick piece which will benefit from (probably) around 24 hours in the oven at the lowest temp possible.

    Sorry - just read that back and it sounds like a bit of a lecture. Didn't mean it to :o Feel free to ignore if it's not relevant.

    Look forward to seeing the finished piece - they really come alive when they're painted don't they.
