when you come back download and install AVG from
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
direct link to the program
http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_394a757.exe
install , update it from the internet when asked and then let it do a scan as I see that you have no Anti-Virus at alll
we will deal with the firewall problem at the end of this

Welcome to the world of an unpatched operating system and Limewire!!
The first thing you need to do before anything else is install Service Pack 1a. Without this Service pack installed everyone is fighting a losing battle as you will become infected again within hours if not minutes of being cleaned up. In fact as quick as we remove the malware for you, it will be reinstalling.
Please click HERE to download and install Service Pack 1a. Choose the 'Network Installation' link.
Once installed, post back with a fresh log. Let us know if you receive any error messages when attempting to install Service Pack 1a.
Then we can get to work on the Alcan and Look2Me infections before clearing up the rest.0 -

I wouldn't normally suggest this (I've got better things to do than reading hijackthis logs), but it might be easier to save your data, and reinstall XP, then SP2 (from CD) make sure firewall is enabled!, then goto windowsupdate.com and patch it asap, and install a virus scanner.
And get a router..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I was a whisker away from suggesting that myself tbh. Jazzycat may yet have to do that depending on how installing SP1a goes. An unpatched Operating System these days often points to a pirated copy of Windows it's sad to say.0

I have recently purchased Win XP Pro as I was running under Win98se and felt that I should update, even though I feel it is a very good operating system.
The software was purchased via ebay and I was led to believe that it was totally legit and above board. When installed I have tried to activate but was told my copy was not genuine!! Seller has now dissapeared. Financially I am not in the best position to fork out again just now - however I fully intend to as I don't believe in piracy. I do have the SP2 on original disc. I though SP1 was installed, but will do this later tonight.
Should I install SP2 at this stage or just leave with 1a?
I appreciate that I am in a dilema at the moment but want to sort my pc, then protect etc and in a couple of months update the system. I just can't afford doing it all now. At least by doing things right now I can prepare for the future.
Thanks again for all your help I honestly appreciate it.0
